I hunt in Baylor county also, see the double main along the Salt Fork of the Brazos also. Yes it a genetic trait. We had a 181 killed a few years ago near Red Springs right on the river. He had extra right main beam of 21 inches in length.
I think injury can have something to do with it. I shot this buck a couple of years ago and the year before I had numerous encounters with him as a main frame 9 with a split G3. I noticed on the game cam pictures he had a scar on his low abdomen. This was on 90 acres in central texas so no high fence or supplemental feed
