While patrolling my beat, I came across a pickup truck parked at the end of a dead end street. Then, the next thing I see is a rather large fella walking out of some woods. My police instincts kick in and I immediately think he is up to no good. I look closer and see that this guy has a huge leather glove on his left hand.
He then tells me that he is a falconer and he was letting his bird hunt in the field. He then pointed to a red tailed hawk up in a tree. He then called the bird to him and proceeded to tell me about his obsession.
He told me that he trapped his bird in the wild when it was still very young. It was all legal of course. He then said it took about six months to get it trained enough for him to take it out in public and trust it enough not to fly away.
Here are some of the pictures he let me take. The bird is a 2 year old red tailed hawk named "Radar". It was so cool being close to a bird of prey.
