    3/4 ton truck question

I'm thinking about getting rid of my 1/2 ton and getting a 3/4 ton.
My question is: would you go with gas or diesel? The truck will be an everyday driver and some towing a bumper pull camper every once in awhile,so which engine would you go with? Thanks for all the input...Brian
OK I forgot to add in,will be is used, and brand doesn't matter..But leaning toward Ford or Chevy...

Gas - do the math on cost, mileage, length of ownership etc to get a definite answer.

My BIL got a gasser. It got 7 miles a gallon when towing his race car. He traded it in less than 6months later and took a beating. I vote go all in and get the diesel.

Nevemind, you won't be towing anything really heavy.

What brand? New or used? We have an '07 F250 with the 5.4 v8 in it and it pulls a lot of weight like a dream so it should handle a camper with no problems at all. It also does ok on the gas mileage for what it is on the highway, and it does suck the fuel when it comes to hauling weight but when it comes to maintenance costs of a diesel vs a gasser it wins hands down.

What does he get with a diesel? I'm betting not much better.

I did the same thing a couple years ago and not regretted it yet.

In your situation, Ide say go with a Gasser. Diesels are cool, but everything costs more on them (purchase price, repair costs, parts, oil changes, maintenance, etc.), not to mention the extra cost of fuel and the fact that most diesels don't get any better mileage than their gasser counterparts when unloaded. If you were constantly loaded or towing then the argument could be made for a diesel, but your situation is similar to mine, where a gas engine could suite your needs.

It use to be advantageous to run a diesel because the purchase price could be offset by the fuel savings, but since the Gov. started mandating extra emissions equipment, and the manufacturers are doing so much to increase the power numbers, fuel consumption on diesels is only slightly better, if at all, than a gasser.

Now, if you just want a diesel, then go for it.

Gas - no stacks, no truck nuts on the back bumper, and keep your side mirrors in the normal position.

Was just looking at one similar, I didn't think the 5.4 in our Expedition had enough power. How does it fair in a 3/4 ton?

I say go gas for your usage. I went from diesels to gas & don't regret it one bit. I will say if you pull a lot or real heavy or just want one a diesel is the way to go.

                            13-14.

He rarely drives it anymore. I think he just likes owning it. To me, it just looks like a huge waste of money...but it's his money, so oh well.

I have a F250 with the 6.7 as my company truck. It has crazy power and will pull like a champ. However, I would buy its little brother if I needed another personal truck.
DEF: kind of a pain in the butt
Oil change: $250 with fuel filter
MPG: 15.5 average on the dash
MPG while pulling a backhoe on a 30' gooseneck: 10.2
