It's not one of my favorites either but Kruez's and Smitty's are the real deal fo' sho'.

I was not impressed by the committee. They looked like some Austin yuppies. The one that really got me was they had Fushack's in San Marcos as honorable mention(average at best) and nothing for Woody's(formerly Soutwest Market) which is easily one of the best in the state.

What he said!! The Mt Zion deal started out as a fund raiser 25 or so years ago, and it was so successful they just decided to make it full time and permanent... built a whole new church house out of that bbq joint! That's some sho-nuff soul food cookin' rat thar!

There are some serious issues with that list.

I can't believe they honestly intended to put together a list like that. There is no way to develop any kind of comprehensive list of the top 100 BBQ places in Texas let alone rank the top 50. It just can't be done.

I was going to hold by tongue. But, BRAVO!

Texas monthly is a good entertaining magazine but they, nor anyone else, have any business trying to put a score and ranking to something that is so subjective. There are just too many variables.

At least they should wait until we've all had our chance to evaluate the talent. I mean, why would they publish something like that without first asking the TBH experts?

Clearly they were not in Bryan early last march.

And who eats brisket at Cooper's?

You know, I didn't want to seem like a sore looser so, I should add that I made the list last go round at number 21. We haven't changed a dang thing in the way we do BBQ for 27 years now. I've always thought it was a joke.

havent been to coopers in llano in about 3 or 4 years but they were pretty good last time i ate there. one of those had joes in alvin in the top 50 i believe that there food is in a barely able to hold it down status. it is way over rated by the prople that live around here since you dont have another bar b que place around without a little drive
