Do you get the operator in the town of which the tower you are working off of or do you get an operator in the town which your number is tied too?

i believe the from the tower your closest to. I have called several times and i think it was from a near by town if not the town i was in or near.

Wireless 911 call routing should be from the cell site you are connected to (generally the nearest but not always) to the nearest 911 call center.

It's a little more complicated than that, but you have to kill something with a bow and arrow before you learn the secret.

i think 311 is the emergency number for cell phones wether you have a signal or not...it wil use the closest tower with whatever provider

Last time I did it, I got transferred back and forth twice, but they eventually got on the drunk driver I was following. You just have to confirm your location and make sure you got the right agency.

jaspro i dont mean to hijack but i was told that you can dial 911 from an inactive cell phone and it would still go through. is this true? i dont see how its possible but i can see the reasoning. anyone no? sorry jaspro i had to ask this.

We were in East Texas (Davey Crockett National Forest) a few years back and my oldest daughter got lost in the woods about dark. Called 911 and got Corpus!! They transfered me to the local county sheriff and we had 200 rescuers heading our way in less than 20 minutes... One sheriff deputy traveled from Palestine (a 45 min drive) in about 20 min. He threatened to kick my *** as he heard my daughter was 2 and wanted to know why we left her alone and went to town. Turned out she was 20...

yes, any cell phone that has a battery will dial 911 -- even with no service plan
