Rotator Cuff Pain in Bow Arm

I'm a new shooter and after shooting 10 or so different bows (60-70 pound pull) at the pro shop my rotator cuff was quite tender the next day.

I bought a new bow and didn't shoot it for 5 days because of this.

I go out last night and shoot about 50 arrows from my bow which is set at 60 pounds. I wake up this morning and **** it hurts. It is not like a muscle soreness, but a sharp pain.

I am assuming that it is my form and I am doing something wrong. Either that or I had a dormant shoulder injury from my glory days of high school football.

    Anyone else experienced this?

Torn cuff maybe. Let down the weight and work your way up. You will still kill a deer at 60#. Heck you can kill a deer at 40#.

Could possibly be a labrum tear. That's kinda the same thing that was happening to me. Had surgery a few weeks ago for it and I'm just now being able to squeeze my hand. But mine was a complete 360' tear. I can suggest a great orthopedic surgeon in Houston if you want to get it checked out.

Just tendonitis usually takes several weeks to heal up

I agree. I've had 3 rotator cuff surgeries, and unless you did something violent to your shoulder shooting those bows, it's likely tendonitis. Let it set for awhile and rest.

Motrin/Ibuprofen, 800 mg every 8 hours for 10 days. That helps the tendinitis.

Be sure you never take the meds on an empty stomach, especially at bedtime. Take with meals, or with a small snack--2 cookies, scoop of ice cream, etc.
