    shells for duck hunting

Going on my first duck hunt in ten days

shooting a 20 gauge browning auto.

what brand of shells do you duck hunter prefer.

I'm hearing opinions from hypersonic, black clouds and kent fastteel.

I have shot gamebore(kent) loads in the past and was impressed.

is the extra 1/8 oz. of shot that I give up from the fast steel worth the extra $6/box to go to the hypersonic or blackcloud?

the blackclouds in a 20 gauge aren't flying all that fast either

Go with kent. I have learned that the higher end stuff isn't worth the extra coin from what I've experienced with it.

I shoot Kent and they do fine. No need to spend the extra money. Of course, I'm shooting a 12ga. 3 1/2" #3s and 1 9/16 oz. of shot.

Dude, for your first hunt, keep it cheap. Hevisteel's black clouds, etc, is for guys who are die hard, all-i-do duck hunters. I shoot the cheapest #4's and #2's I can find and I do extremely well (when there are birds). I'd hate for you to spend all that money on misses. And you will miss.

Buddy of mine went on a guided trip last year. He took some Xperts and the guide wouldn't even let him take them on his boat. I'm not a big duck hunter but that has to say something. He had other shells with him, but I thought that was crazy.

They go bang and kill ducks, no doubt, but they are the most inconsistent and dirty shells that I have seen.

Yeah it is crazy for a guide to be that arrogant.
Go with Fasteel for your first hunt. Good mid priced shell.

I have killed hundreds of ducks with the cheap winchester brand, the important part is shot size. If I plan to shoot mostly mallards or other large ducks I shoot 3" #2's, if its teal, wood duck, or other puddle ducks go for #3's.

choosing the right choke and gun fit are a lot more important to killing ducks than what brand your box says.

invest in a good choke and pattern your gun with it using a few different brands of shells to see what she likes the best.

Id like to know who this is, so I never use him. Ive shot Xpert as long as I have duck hunted and never had an issue with them.

I will never buy another box of Black Cloud ever again. Biggest load of marketing crap in the entire hunting industry. Its absolutely the dirtiest most fouling powder I have ever run through my gun. They are marketing cheaper 'flawed' pellets that are not round as designed to "cut" on contact.... load of horse manure... they don't fly well.

Kent FastSteel is about the best value on the market.

You inclination will be to get much larger shot that you actually need. I rarely shoot anything larger than a 5, and kill early ducks with 6's or 7's 2 3/4". More pellets in the air have an amazing effect on birds.......

I would like to know the issues with Xperts too. I shot some Kent's last year with good results however, when the shells would eject, the ends were chewed up and un-reloadable.
