    Colorado Preference Points

My Brother a few buddie and I have put in for preference points 3 years in a row now. I was wondering if next youear we could expect to draw a good unit for Mule Deer Elk and pronghorn. We will probably only hunt one of these a year over the next few years.

Any idea how this will go or should we continue to put in for PPoints for the next few years?

Colorado has a document on their website which tells you how many pp's a particular unit needed last yr. that is what I always go off of. Google Colorado preference points statistics and you'll find it

Depends on where you are headed. If your hunt is going to take that many points chances are you are going to a great area.

Yeah, we want to make sure we are going at the right time and in the right place for success. We are just new to all this and need to make sure we don't regret going early to a sub-par unit.

It took me 12pp to get a deer tag. I'm sure u can draw with 4, but most of the better units require at least 6, what uve been told by huntin fool.

Unit 12 archery elk would be a fun hunt. Lots of elk there! a few good ones. You could draw it this next year with your points. For deer I would be putting in for archery in 61 should take approx 5 points, plus you would have a blast watching a lot really good elk! If you are wanting a rifle hunt that is good quality? you have a long wait ahead of you. I have 12 deer points that I am trying to figure out what to do with.

It depends on which unit and season you are trying to get drawn for. If it is a high demand unit/season it will take more points.

yep..and just because it's a good unit, doesn't mean it'll be a good hunt. A lot depends on what the migration routes do along the way and if they cross into other units.

You'll see that there's been some point creep over the past few years, with the exception of some units that got hit hard by winterkill in 07-08. Those units still require 10-12pts currently, but are going to jump significantly when the guys sitting on points feel they've rebounded enough to use their points on instead of going through the voucher system.
