As the title states, I've been a member here a while but never really got serious until now. My dad and I decided to get into archery and bowhunting and made the same mistake I figure a lot of folks make. We went to a pawn shop and bought two bows that looked nice. After pulling our hair out and ruining a dozen or so high priced carbon arrows by completely missing the target bag, we decided to take our bows to Chris at The Sportsman's Center in Brownwood.
Chris went through setting our bows up, then realized that they were just too short for us. He hated telling us, but he bit the bullet and bore the bad news. I'm so grateful he did.
Since then I have scored a PSE Freak and my dad got him a Bear Encounter. Both bows give us what we need in draw length.
Chris spent a while tuning our bows then started teaching us the ins and outs of proper shooting form. He spent his own time methodically going over form lessons with us. I'm not sure if Chris is on the forum here, but either way if you're ever around Brownwood I highly recommend stopping by the Sportsman's center and meeting him. He is truly a great dude and I feel so honored that he spent so much time with us. He said it was his way of "passing the torch."
Kudos Chris!
Here's my first group at home at 20 yards with the PSE Freak. I know it's probably nothing to you guys that have been at it a while, but I'm pretty dang pleased and getting better every day!
