The heck with Dallas. Forney or Crandall it would be about a 30 minute drive from Crandall.

I'd listen to what txag says. He knows the area well.

I agree that if it is a house you are looking to rent, I'd go toward lake highlands and/or white rock lake area for a short commute to 75 and nw hwy.

Not sure if it sold or not but "waterhound" had a really nice house he was going to sell in the Midway and 635 area. That would be 10-15 minutes in heavy traffic times...

The Oak Lawn area will be perfect considering you are coming from Austin !

Ha. Speak the truth lol. We just bought a house north of McKinney in Howe. 30-45 minute drive for wife to get to work in Plano. Worth the drive to be out of that busy area. If you like the city McKinney would be my choice. They even have a Cabelas. ; )

Do not consider those northern towns they are mentioning. The drive on 75 will kill ya!!
Lake highlands is a great area. If your income is high might think about west on 12 towards Preston/Inwood/Midway.

Do you have kids? If so you will end up with a longer commute. You do not want your children in DISD schools if you want them to be literate by age 16.

Lake Highlands is your best bet.

I would move into Richardson and avoid the Dallas taxes, city of Dallas even has a personal property tax on autos and boats and DISD is a train wreck. If deadset on Dallas then as others have said, Lake Highlands area but in RISD. I just left Frisco, been there since 97, for the quiet life way north. Drive from Frisco to where you are would be a nightmare.

Richardson, for houses look in "The Reservation" or "Canyon Creek". Both easy to shoot straight down Coit to your work and nice areas with larger lawns. Also easy to get to the Whiterock trail for biking, jogging, etc...

                          LOL

I am all for being north of the metromess but the commute going that far in could be hell. I drive 55 miles from north to get into richardson and to that point is not bad. From there south on 75 always looks to be a mess at that 9 am hour.

Ugh, if I had to move back to Dallas........

....well.....Lower Greenville is the best area but not schools. I grew up in Lake Highlands. It isn't what it used to be by any means but still it's RISD. Up north would be the best bet for schools but dear god the traffic.

                                Not bad advice.

I live inbetween Greenville ave and White Rock Lake and love it but you pay a lot for houses there. M Streets, Lakewood, Lake Highlands are all cool places to consider.

Richardson is a better deal but I love being close to the lake, good music and downtown.

Dallas is not as cool as Fort Worth but honestly, it's just Fort Worth on steroids. There is no city in Texas I'd rather live in.
