    Standard Poodle Experiences?

    All,

I am super stoked that it looks like I will be getting a puppy in January. I have decided on a Standard Poodle for several reasons namely, low shedding, athleticism, intelligence, trainability, and loyalty.

Does anybody have any experience with this breed?

Don't worry, mine won't be the one with a funny haircut.

A guy brought one to a dove hunt once and it was a heck of a retriever...as good as any I have ever worked with. That dog was the hit of the party too...It had the classic "show" haircut with little pink bows and everything...

Well since you asked.... I went with my boss to meet a customer a few years ago. The man brought his standard poodle with him. We were meeting him at his property outside of town. We got out and introduced ourselves. The large energetic poodle was busy running around bothering his owner and my boss. I tried to distract the poodle so they could discuss business and things were going fine, until he started humping me! That's all I got.

You will not be sorry with a Standard. I was a lab freek untill we found out that my wife was alergic to dog dander. Standard was the only hunting breed the fit the bill. They are so smart and easy to train. They are very driven and you need to work with them every day or they will let you know. Mine knows how to tell time 430 and its time to retireve run the course or blood track. I am very impressed on how fast they will learn something new. Do your home work on breeders. Look for a hunting blood line and don't buy one because it was a deal. My 4 year old female from a breeder in dallas was high dollar but she is so much more intune with hunting then my male bargain dog. He was the one my wife wanted to keep the female compony. He dosn't have the drive the female has. If you do get a Standard Poodle get ready to take alot of crap from your buddys and the crowd here on Tbh. lol My buddy don't give me crap any more because they have seen her work.
