food plot vs feeder? or both?

Ive never done a food plot and was thinking about it. What results have you seen? more action on the plot or at a feeder? thanks

food plot vs feeder? or both?

I see more action on the plot. I have a high percentage of deer that will come in to the plot, graze and never hit either the protein feeder or corn slinger. Very few deer will come in and just hit the feeder without also grazing on the plot. In hunting the same areas for 5 or 6 yrs without plots and now in our 3rd yr with plots, we absolutely see more deer since we incorporated plots in our setups.

I have deer that will go to the feeder then go to the food plot and some go right to the food plot. The deer stay for hours in the plot and with only a feeder they would eat and be gone. A food plot is worth the time, expense and money.

I've done both for years. I love food plots and like feeders(well I hate feeders but I hand corn so same principle). With plots you have to be ready to spend money, put in some serious labor, and pray for rain. Plots are a million times more beneficial for deer. Corn is to deer is like candy to us. It's the chocolate of the deer world. Plots can be very hit and miss. Some times it takes deer a year or two to even get used to them. Other times it's like a deer magnet. Your deer herd will benefit from food plots. Gain body weight, look healthier, better horn mass, and less stress when all the natural browse is gone. Bottom line is you'll never know until you try. Good luck.

I use both and each one has its positives and negatives. I believe that they will compliment each other, each being more attractive at different times.

Depends on location but anywhere favorable for a plot do both + hand corn.

If you must choose go with the plot.

If in a rocky or dry area go with feeder and hand corn.

I've used both for years with mixed results. My Franklin county deer eat it up; Grayson deer not so much. In fact this year not a single deer has walked through the plot yet while hunting, while several have fed at my feeder. This is the first year for this location though and as previously stated they may not be quite used to it yet. I definitely believe in the more groceries you can provide to the does the better chance of bringing in the bucks!

I prefer the plot. They will typically come and graze for longer periods. If you can do both, go for it.
