This. I'm withholding judgement pending knowing why the dog was out to begin with. The dog may have been innocent, maybe not. The owner always swears their dog is a beloved family pet and rarely admit that it's out of the yard.
Not a good deal to find yourself in that situation, and I've had many hunts ruined by qual dogs who've escaped for the weekend, or whose owners let them roam in the country.
So I guess the only answer to a dog on the property is to shoot it. Kill it, that will teach them to let their dog get out. Senseless, that was someone's pet. It wouldn't kill the hunter to just tell the people their dog is out. It's a pet, not a target. Was he going to eat it?
Bad deal all the way around.
"Man up to your responsibilities"'she said. I think it was her responsibility to not let the dog be roaming 1/2 mile from her house.
A well known rancher shot a dog of mine one time. He said it was in his pasture with his cows and calfs. He said it wasn't chasing and didn't give him a chance to chase. I said "I understand no problem" it was really my fault. Why throw a fit about it.?
Hold on now, so you've never had a pet get out. Wild dogs are one thing, but a pet dog is more often a family member. That actually looked like a hunting dog.
I have a hard time distinguishing the 2.
Scenario 1: Dogs running deer consistently on a property... Aww that's someone's pet, they must have gotten out by accident.
Scenario 2: Coyotes running deer occasionally. KAC!!! Anyone got a call and a light I can borrow? These things are out of control! KILL'M ALL!!!
If you think for 1 second that a dog isn't capable of harming a deer you've lost your mind. Keep him on your side of the fence and we won't have an issue. He crosses on to mine he might get lucky. If I see him chasing a deer I'll treat that polka dotted sweater that granny made for him like a bull's eye!

You forgot to bury it too... When will people learn. you gotta buy a shovel.
I took from the video they were on public land. Which is not their property. To be honest I'm pretty shocked that some of y'all could defend the hunter. I suspect y'all would feel different if it was your dog.

Nope have had several dogs shot by the neighbors while chasing their livestock and chickens. Have also shot several neighbors dogs actively killing our goat. Guess living out in the boonies keeps me from thinking of the dog as a family member and more along the lines of him actually being a dog.

I am not one to say anything about dogs I have four at the moment. But they are dogs. Not much more. Do we get attached... of course. Does that magically make them human... no. If you care you will keep them on your property. I know mine are behind a hotwire for that reason.

I started a roaming dog thread not long after I got on this forum and learned real quick. Keep the silent in SSS
However, I'm really sorry if you suspect most would feel that way. Most of the people put alot of time and money into their hunting to have a dog (wild, roamer or family member) show up.
Have you not seen how obsessed some are biting their nails waiting for season to start.
