How to use calls

Does anybody use calls when deer hunting? I have been in situations where a nice buck was just outside of bow range and am wondering if calls come in handy in these situations.

What type of call and what situation do you use them in?

Do you have success with calls?

Personally I think its a bunch of advertising bs... in my experience at least. Deer dont reach to calls like a coyote does. Rattling horns works during the right time though.. when they are close and you cant get em is why its called hunting and not shooting.

I tried calling some when I was younger but never had any success. I just started bow hunting real heavy the last 3 years and have had several nice bucks at100 yards that never came within bow range. I am just trying to find an advantage in those situations.

I agree on the advertising. Everyone has the perfect snake oil out there.
