After my first bow hunting season in 2012, which consisted of one miss (axis doe), many learning opportunities, and no kills, I caught the fever. I have been addicted ever since and find it hard to pick the boomstick back up this weekend. My buddies and brother introduced me to this site and it is probably my number one site visited on my work computer! Thanks for all of the great advice and entertainment I have found on here.
Well, I was finally able to pop my bow cherry on a whitetail doe at our place last weekend. For my first ever bow kill, a 30 yard shot of our Krivoman blind, I put a decent shot (looks horrible in picture) on her; she was quartering away and the shot wasn't as good as I would have liked, but a kill shot is a good shot in my opinion! I was just excited to hear that thump for the first time and get the first one under my belt. (Go ahead and hammer on the upside down bow in the pic - rookie)
Went to my buddy's place in Junction over the weekend in search of my first axis doe bow kill. Saturday evening I ended up nailing a 70 lb piggy and was definitely feeling good after my second kill, but really wanted an axis doe. Yesterday morning I changed up stands and sure enough a group of axis does came out!! Had the shot at 3 different animals in a 9 day period, couldn't believe it!!!! The biggest doe in the group gave me a chance at a shot (severe quartering away shot) so I slung an arrow. Once again it wasn't the shot I would have liked to make, but it sure was a kill shot.
Couldn't be more excited for 3 different animals in a 9 day period and couldn't be more grateful for the hunts I have been on so far this year. Although all 3 shots were kill shots, I need to work on tuckin that arrow up closer to the shoulder. Definitely gonna be practicing more often.
