I checked my weather channel app and it said SE wind 5-10mph so I decided to sit in a particular stand. After being in the stand I noticed wind was doing its own thing! Irritated cause I saw a big bodied deer (believe nice buck) moving and he busted me. Had I sat in the other stand, wind would've been in my face and I would've had a 23 yard shot! Wind was NE! Figured the weather channel app would've been more accurate, dangit.

Wind frustration!

Usually the weather channel info is pretty accurate, however sometimes fronts stall out or whatever. Like you, I always check the WC before the hunt to see what they are saying the wind will do and plan accordingly, however if you get out of the truck and the wind is doing something different than you expected, you need to go to plan B and try to get in a stand with the wind in your favor. I have finally realized, after getting busted too many times, that it is not worth wasting a sit in a location where the wind is not in your favor. You are wasting your time and will get very frustrated.

Nothing quite like puffing some flour in the air, or lighting a match, throwing grass in the air and observing for yourself.
I had trouble with the wind all weekend. I would set up based on the wind and it would change several times over the course of a hunt. Made for tough hunting. Had a buck come in just as I was leaving last night. I was on the ground standing and he stepped around a bush thirty yards downwind from me. We had a stare down for a bit, then he put two and two together and realized that he was staring at a human. I will never forget the look that came across his face at that moment. Made my day!

Wind can be highly dependent on local conditions & terrain. Elevated or recessed terrain can cause current to redirect at 20 ft or so. Regionally that info might have been accurate but your exact locale might be micro-climate influenced
Not to be a smart arse, but could you not identify the wind direction on your way in before getting settled?

Hard to predict mother nature. I use weather.com and its right about 75% of the time. Yesterday the wind shifted right in the middle of the evening hunt. From SW to SE, it actually helped my hunt. I always check the flag to see which way its blowing right before heading out. If it shifts it shifts. Good luck.
