    Deer organs for dogs?

I'm a big proponent in using as much of the animal as possible. Silly question but I had a hair brained idea and saved off the heart & liver from the spike buck I took this last weekend to give to my dogs. Anyone else do this???...are there transmissible diseases I should know about that dogs can get from deer???

I'd be really really surprised if they can get something like this if its cooked, Maybe worms if its raw? No idea.

We sometimes feed them pieces of heart and liver while cleaning animals. Never had a problem so far.

Just watch giving too much at one time. It's rich

I can't answer the disease question but I feed heart, liver and legs to my dogs as treats. I've done it all my life and never had any problems. When my tracking dog finds a deer, he gets some nice slices of warm liver as a reward. Now, if I shoot a deer that looks sick, I wouldn't. I'm only talking about healthy deer I plan to eat.

Maybe someone else can address potential diseases but I can't imagine changing this practice myself.

My son feeds most entrails from deer to his 2 dogs. Liver, kidneys, lungs and just about everything else. They are about the healthiest two dogs I've seen. He does not feed them the hearts though. They are much too delicious to be given to dogs.

I feed my dogs the heart/liver when I clean them. As stated above, just don't give too much at one time because they are rich and you will know it when you clean out the kennel...

There was a deaf dog at Rio Bonito that I had the misfortune of letting him lick my hand. I almost died when I smelled it. He also ate the spent shotgun shells when we were shooting skeet. He always had a leg bone close by.

A little raw meat didn't hurt that dog, just gave him THE worst breath I have ever smelled....

Always works good for tracking dogs also
But don't give to hog dogs though , they have
A tendency to stray alittle from the hog
Track and sometimes get on a deer track
No problem with diseases saves on dog food.

Heart is good fried up with eggs........liver is good if used fresh to make boduin.

K9 - so you would maybe cut into thirds and feed with normal dog food in a reduced portion?

Cook the heart and have it yourself - it's great.

My dog loves anything off a deer. I've been throwing him scraps since he was a pup. He loves leg bones and they are alot cheaper than the raw hides at the store. Never had a health problem due to it.
