    Hand corn question...

I setup a new spot today after finding a lot if buck sign near a large creek. I have to cross a slough and a small creek to get to it, water can get up around 2 - 3' at times and floods on occasion so no feeder. I put out 30# of corn to start. How often and how much do you put out when doing it by hand? I plan to give it a week or two before hunting it. Thanks for any info.

P.s. I did a search but to much to weed through with little info...

Id put a camera on it and see whats happening. I would think 30lb every 5 days would keep em coming. Get you some buck candy and Franks Deer in Estrus Urine. Frank is gathering the estrus urine next week. Hope you gettum!! Wear rubber gloves and rubber boots. SCENT FREE!!

I was looking for some new spots for a guided client I'm hunting with this evening. I found a couple rubs yesterday and a bunch of tracks. So, I brushed in a popup, put up a camera and hand corned it with about a gallon of corn. Checked the camera and there's a shooter 10pt on the camera this morning. Any guess where we'll be hunting this evening?

You don't, necessarily, NEED to prep a spot for a long time. Pick the right spot and it'll be good that day, possibly. The deer in my avatar was killed in a setup that I made and got in it as soon as it was done. 2 hrs later......WHOPP!!!

Instead of 30# of corn on one spot, try 10# in the spot and the other 20# spread lightly over a large area in trails leading to your spot.

Sweet there's a camera there, I forgot to mention. I always have my mucks on. Blind is setup and brushed so maybe I'll hit it and check camera tomorrow evening. I did scatter a little in my second choice shooting lane so it's covered well with corn. Just wasn't sure on dispense frequency of the corn. Every time I'm out do I need to scatter a little in both lanes, or once a week "refill" each lane with 10 or so pounds? Thanks for the responses makes me feel good about the spot!

When I hand corn its an every day thing, weather & work schedule permitting. If you have the ability, that's best. If you put out 30# of corn they'll park and eat it until its gone, once they've found it. So, its a waste to throw that much and wait 5 days to come do it again. 10-15# will get you the exact same effect. Unfortunately, if you don't do it at least every other day, you don't establish a regular pattern they will respond to and you usually won't see as many deer right off the bat when you start hunting it. Imagine a feeder that only went off every 4-5 days. How effective would it be coated to a normal daily feeder.

          Good luck!

That's the info I needed I'll guess I'll be stopping by at least every other day and everyday when possible. Again thanks for the info!

Sounds like a hog haven. Corn it as often as you can.

Surprisingly never seen hogs... Good and bad depending on who you talk to. We have them less than a mile away but never seen them on our place, even with cameras. Maybe one day...

I'd keep it corned as often as possible as said. And like said, maybe only 10# at a time so they can't sit there all night and get into that pattern. Good luck!

All I do is hand corn
I only corn when I sit in the stand usually on weekends and I only put out about 10 lbs
I spray it down with vanilla or some other tasty smell and I see deer same day
No need to make trips out to throw corn unless you plan to hunt.
They have a great nose and will find it

I was thinking the same thing. You'll have to see what the camera tells you. Usually deer find it first and get ran off by hogs who will dominate the site within a week. I like to move my spot a little at that point in time. Otherwise your SD card will be full of black specs on the screen. In my experience.

I will hand corn and hunt a spot right away but I'll also hand corn it every day for as long as I want to leave that particular stand in place. Luckily, I have that luxury. I'm probably hand corning 10-12 spots a day right now, for myself and clients.

I dump 50-100 pounds every chance I get, typically a couple times a week.. Hand corn is the only way I feed any more and for me I've found to be 1,000 times more productive...
