    First times for everything

What are some interesting new things y'all have seen this season so far? Just this weekend I had several firsts.

I saw one crow start harassing a hawk only to have him change his call, bring in all his buddies, and then drive the hawk off.

I had an owl land in my tree at 7am today, and hop back and forth between two branches trying to figure out what I was. He was probably 4 feet away.

Also this morning, I watched the dew on every leaf on every tree evaporate once the sun came up and make the prettiest tendrils of smoke I have ever seen.

I'm always amazed by what can occur in nature.

What are some new things y'all have seen this season?

I was hunting in a makeshift ground blind and had a squirrel come within a foot of me and go up the tree beside me which was probably 3 feet from me. Once I moved to watch him he spotted me. He sat about 4 feet off the ground chattering at me. I guess he was trying to figure out what I was. Kinda cool

I was sitting outside at our cabin after dark opening weekend and had 2 owls land in big oak tree about 30 ft away and start hooting at each other. Can't say I actually saw them but it was cool to listen to them. Went on for 45 minutes.

Have you ever noticed how many spiders there are on the ground?

I've noticed them before but walking to the blind early with a headlight on I see blue green reflections on the ground everywhere. Looking closer they are small spiders and their eyes are reflecting the light back at me. I bet in every square yard I'll see 6 to 8 of them. Pretty cool unless you are afraid of spiders.

Yes! I remember as a little kid tracking blood and the spiders would throw me off because of the shine. Good times

This is why it is colder at 7am than 5am. I hate evaporation when it is 33 degrees outside.....

Bluejay landed 4 feet from me and a woodpecker. A small green tree frog on a leaf 18' up in the tree with me.
A hog walked across at camp behind our trucks. Didn't care we was there talking up a storm. Also for the first time in 5 years while in the stand I seen hogs.
Buddy seen and owl swoop down at his feeder and catch a female cardinal.

I had a Redtail hawk attach my mojo dove a few weeks ago. Broke the wing off of it and carried it off about 20 yard before he dropped it.

Had a group of turkey's come in behind my setup and they ended up flying up the tree I was sitting in to roost. Pretty interesting...

I saw a gopher pop up next to squirrel that was under the feeder. Squirrel was so busy munching on corn he did not see the gopher for a couple of minutes. Yes gophers will eat corn (at least get a few kernels and take it down the hole)

On a side note, if I was a owl I would find out where the crows roost and tear them a new ***. They would not be able to sleep at night for fear of me coming in and killing them.
If I was a hawk I would kill a few of them too, every day.

Just last week, had a hummingbird check out my fetching 8" from my face and had a woodpecker land on my shoulder that same sitting. Both startled me something fierce, lol
                            But it was cool.

Had a bird fly in my popup Saturday evening, scared the crap out of me.
