    Deer Meat Question

Ok I shot a buck last year and nice 8 point but its tail end was a mess . It was green from scours (diarrhea) I had noticed the the runny scat on the ground around the feeder for a few days but gave it no thought. I shot this deer in Dec it was cold with snow still on the ground and it was at the possessor in just a few minutes after field dressing it. I Have eaten meat from this deer 2 times both times I ended up sick. Sever case of diarrhea I made chili to take to the lease Tue and ate it Wen night Thur night and was sick by Friday morn at 3am and still fighting the diarrhea tonight . My previous wife was a cafeteria manager so I am well versed in food handling and am very particular with how food is prepared and taken care of.
My Question to the green screen is could this deers meat be "infected" or could it have something that is passed on to me? It taste ok , looks ok, smells like deer, but has made me sick both time I have eaten it.
I have a whole deer that I am thinking of trashing. I have hunted all my life and never seen a deer with the scours so whats do yall think?

Great question. Seems like if it had something that it would be killed when you cooked it. I dont know......I'd hate to waste a deer but getting sick aint no good.

If it was me, I would feed it to my mother-in-law and see if she gets sick. Not recommended for everyone though.

Well I would think It would kill anything in the meat when cooked also but then I have never seen a deer with the scours....I hate to throw it out but both times I ate it and sick with the same diarrhea each time. It is so sever I am passing almost clear liquids. I thought ok the first time was just a stomach bug but now I am not so sure.

I am willing to bet it's more of a processing error.

The processor is a nice clean place. I have used it for several years but all it takes is one uh-oh to make someone sick. I am processing my own this year. Had already made that decision before all this just due to the cost. I guess its coyote and hog bait for that deer though. I am not taking a chance on it any more.

That sucks to have to waste a whole deer but you can't get making yourself sick. Did anyone else eat what you had and get sick too? Thats about the only way I can think of to find out if thats it. I guess just go shoot another to take its place!!

X2 Anyone else get sick? If you are still feeling bad, you can head to a Dr. office and they can find out with tests and samples.

i don't know but i would think that you could contact the health dept. and maybe they could tell you what to do or who to call about getting a sample tested. but i would NOT eat anymore untill that time.
