How do you unlock a gun safe that you don't know the combo too?

Our neighbor passed away and his daughter was having an estate sale. We bought a large gun safe from her that is open but the lock is locked so we cannot shut it. It is a combination lock. We have tried calling Browning and we followed the instructions on the website and the automated instruction Manuel. It says to fax them all the info and how you came to own the safe etc... Then give them 24-48 hrs to contact you. It's been a week though. Any ideas on how to get it unlocked? How much does a locksmith cost and will they open a safe. I wouldn't think that it would be a big ordeal considering the safe is open already. I just need the locked unlocked. Couldn't pass up the deal on the safe, it sure was a good one.

Try calling pop a lock and just asked if they can even unlock a combination type.

Call a safe company. I bought an old used bank vault door and I hired a safe company to come and reset the combo for me. I think it cost me about $150 for the 60mile round trip and the reset. This was about 11 years ago.

call Browning customer service daily until you get a response by speaking to a human being, not a recorded message

Not sure if a locksmith can do it, worth a try though. Best bet is probably through the MFG Company.

See if you can take the inside panel of the door off. This should expose the lock mec. I know on Winchester safes you can do this and change the combo from the inside.

I would keep bugging Browning until I got ahold of a real person.

Inside the door on the door should be a plate with screws pull the plate off and start turning the knob until the tumblers fall and look what number it is on then based on how many tumblers tells you how many turns and the direction. I had to do this with my safe which had 4 numbers so it actually turns the wrong direction for the first number

The lady we bought it from sold the other safe to a guy that did that to that one... But he said it couldn't be done on this one? Idk if that is true or not. I have no experience with this stuff.

That's no lie. I've called on 2 different occasions now, got ahold of a lady who transferred me to the correct department... Where I was placed on hold to listen to the dang rainforest sounds •_•

                            Easy!

Just call your local locksmith from the phone book.

Tell them the safe is open and the maker and model of the safe and they will give you a quote.
