    Smoke in clothes

A family lost their house to a fire last weekend, but some of the kids clothes were saved. My wife is trying to wash the smoke smell out of them and not having much luck. She has tried soaking in vinegar, baking soda, and letting them sit in the much needed rain water we got last week. Nothing seems to help. Any home remedies out there?

Maybe someone will let you use their ozonics.

Don't have any advice, but that's awesome of you and your wife helping them out!

May try dead down wind scent free detergent? Not 100% sure it will work but definately worth a try.

Take them to a dry cleaners that can give them an ozone treatment, after that you can wash them and they will be fine.

My daughter did this for her and her two sons after they had a fire and it worked out.

It's always hard trying to get smoke out of clothes no matter how hard you wash them.

We use Gojo and a commercial orange cleaner at the station to wash our fire gear... If I remember I will post the name of it this weekend. Seems to take it the smoke smell out of our gear. Ive never had a problem with (whatever my wife uses) getting the smoke smell out of my station wear clothing...

Febreeze works fairly well and is worth a try.

My brother lost his house a few years ago in a fire (thanks ford for not doing squat!). His insurance paid for a recovery of anything useable. I want to say Cotton got the contract. I was there to help load all the stuff they kept and the rep from Cotton who was a really nice guy said ordinary washing machines wouldnt cut it. They used large rooms and treated the clothing for hours. I also remember him saying any clothing that was on a metal hanger was toast. Once the heat got to the hanger the crease was permanently ironed into the top of the shirt or pants.

On another note as mentioned how old are they? Im sure I could get a bag load of stuff my 10 yr old has out grown they could have
