Hog hunting at night - appears to be two schools of thought.

I am new to hog hunting. seems like everytime that they start moving during the mornings and evenings during shooting time like clockwork they fail to appear.

I have the following light.Click image for larger version

It will light up an area big time with all 3 lights going. Their directions say to turn on light over feeder and leave it on.

Others say stay in the dark and lower light on onto them.

What have y'all had luck with. Be nice to leave light on feeder at all times but even though lights are red it seems like it would spook em.

I have white light and green light motion detectors on my feeders and they get used to them so if you leave it on all the time it won't be an issue.

Mine stay on all night. Took the pigs 5 hours to get used to them.

As far as lowering your light slowly onto them, that's when there is no light source and you are using a bow light. Change anything and they can spook. Keep it constant and they will stay.

Having lights on the feeder, whether they're on all night or activated by motion is a WAY more consistent method of killing pigs. Once they get used to the light.

Lights on your bow are good for mobility but they WILL spook a lot of hogs, despite what the manufacturers say. Not that they don't work, they do. It's just that a lit feeder with hogs coming to it is a lot easier.

They will get used to the motion lights eventually, and I prefer it because I don't have to pay as much attention. When that light turns on, you know it's time for action.

Just leave them on and they'll get used to it. I've had great success with low intensity LED's, kinda like a moonlight type of thing.

Put a flash trail camera at your hog set up. BOOM! Problem solved and you have tc pics. I've never had a hog run from a bow light with this strategy.

I guess im the exemption. I tried feeder lights and after weeks the pigs still wouldnt go into the light. I guess if the same pigs come over and over, maybe. But at our place its one black one one night, then 2 brown ones the next night, then a multicolored herd, then a white one.. if the same pigs never come back, you have fresh ones to "get used to it" every night.

I kill PLENTY with just a light on my bow

set it up away from the feeder with a car battery and solar panel, never had an issue with that setup and its plenty of light even at 100 yards in my blind

I have done both methods. By far, the more challenging is no lights and using one on your bow. If you can leave the lights on or motion detector, that would be the better way.

                      That looks uncomfortable. Good luck.

Full moon this weekend. If the clouds go away, you wont need any light.

If you dont mind, who made that light? It looks very much like the ones I used to make before I changed to a "better" design. ( made for myself, never sold )

I sit and listen for them and then stalk them with my bow light.....funniest way imo. Killed more this way too
