    Deer Stand

I don't rilfe hunt much, but I have to put one up on the lease. Between the corn and protein prices my wife will have a fit if I spend much more money on anything. Any suggestions on an elevated blind that wont break the bank.

Use scrap lumber. If there are any new home developments in your area. They have a scarp pile in front of them during the framing stage. Pick up the scraps and make your stand.

Also, if you can find a shipping container for a large item the floors of those make a good floor for a stand.

i have a double texas hunter box blind. i use it in crane and its cool. havent got to use it in the winter yet as i got it not too long ago. it can fit 4 people and a camera very confortably. i think they run around 1000 which isnt bad considering the size. it would be about the same to build one as nice as it is. good luck with it whichever you choose to do.

Does it have to be a box blind?A tripod is very reasonable, usually less than$160.00.

I've built some cheap ones before using scrap lumber like WoJo said and landscape timbers for the legs. They will last a pretty long time.

              Build your own.

              1. Go to a lumber yard (a real lumber yard, not Home Depot or Lowes) and see if they'll sell you damaged sheet goods and twisted or bowed lumber at a discount. They almost always will.

              2. Contact a local business that receives equipment/parts in wooden crates. Ask if they'll save you a big one or several small ones you can salvage the lumber & plywood off of. It would be a good start. Years ago that's how my dad would get his duck blinds.

I like the idea of the wooden crates. What kind of company am I looking for that would receive inventory that larger?

                    "Build your own"

I'm not going to plug my company or try to sell you a treestand, but as a treestand manufacturer and member of the TMA, I'd like to add some input.

"If" you do make your own, you should really think about getting some experienced help from design to construction.

Over 75% of treestand accidents happen from home-built treestands.

                    Be careful.

I've killed several deer while sitting in trees. A couple of times I nailed wood steps and seats in them, but most of the time I just find a horizontal limb with a good back rest and foot rest "built in".

                      Those are pretty cheap.

Squigey,...I see the large wooden boxes all the time at a moving company close to my office, I've seen some big enough to be a deer blind, but never thought about using one for that. Check with the big moving companies or tractor dealers who get large parts in on motor freight. GOOD LUCK!

If you put a couple of dallors away every week from work then in a few weeks or months depending how much money you put away you will have enough for a stand.
