A friends younger sister posted that on Facebook yesterday. Below you will find my response. I know there are a million more points I could have touched on, but the point is that we need to remember that we all have a duty to represent hunters well, especially to the naysayers. Name-calling and petty squabbling serve nobody's interest, and it is only through respectful and factual discourse that we can help folks realize that not all hunters are like what some of the negative stereotypes portray them to be.

As a passionate fisherman, rifle hunter and bow hunter, I of course couldn't disagree more. However, I am also a huge animal lover, with a house full of pets and no stomach to watch an animal suffer. I always strive for the fastest, most humane kill, and I do absolutely all of the work from killing to eating. The butchering, processing, everything. I honor the lives of the animals I kill by feeding my family, and I have the utmost respect for why it means to take a life. I give back far more than I take from my local hunting areas, and I always feel a degree of sadness along with the other positive emotions when I make a kill, because the animals I pursue are indeed gorgeous majestic creatures. I have lots of friends who are veg or vegan, and I actually enjoy a lot of their cuisine as well. I don't expect everyone to adopt my ideals just because I take the time I explain them, by I hope in doing so I help at least a few folks understand that not all hunters are like what some of the negative stereotypes portray them to be. A great number of us are responsible, ethical stewards of our environment and wildlife resources, and place great emphasis on setting a good example for our peers and descendants to follow.
