    House Security Systems

What systems do you guys have for your house? I am having ADT come out tomorrow to give me a quote. I always see there commercials, but if you have something else let me know. Did you guys get the top of the line with all the whistles and bells? About what does the installation cost and how much should I expect to pay a month?

Tomball is getting a little ghetto here lately.

    Thanks for your help.

    Chad

I've had ADT for 35 years. Might find something cheaper, but they've been around for years and do a good job.

Do not - D O N O T - use ADT. They are scum bags. We moved to Smith Thompson and we are thrilled. No contract and $15.00 a month. You do pay up front for the equipment but that is cheep compared to ADT.

This is the type of stuff I knew the GS would know. I figured ADT had been around forever so they had this down to a fine science. A lot of my friends have them and have never had a issue, but then I was talking with some people at work and they were telling me not to go with ADT because of some issues.

When the ADT tech shows up make sure he is licensed through TxDPS Texas Private Security Bureau.

He should have an identification card with that on it. That means he has had his background checks done.

If he doesn't tell him to kick rocks.

Pm me if you have any questions. I am in the industry.

I used to be in the industry, but on the commercial side since everything we did was "interactive". (you don't want someone being able to check out your cameras in the house whenever they want). The question you need to ask these people is can they handle the type of system you want. Maybe you know, maybe you don't know what you want. For me, I have two younger children (at the time 2 and 5). I did NOT want a motion detector. Did not want my alarm going off if they got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or something. I wanted EVERY point of entry covered with "contacts". I have a door contact on front, back and slider. Window contacts on every window and glass breaks on large windows that don't open. Given that, I called Smith Thompson out and their alarm panel could not handle everything I wanted. They could only do the typical, front & back door, motion detector types. I ended up going with Hawk Security. Charged me about $350 for the install, but was expecting that with all the zones and contacts I wanted. About $40/month, but again, I want more than the typical discount rate system they advertise. I also don't have a contract and I own all the equipment.

                        Security Networks here!!

I have the whole nine yards. Thermostat, cameras, lights, alarm - all controlled by phone. Only $70/mo and installation cost was negligible.

We have Vivant. I've read and heard about all the bad stuff about them but we've never had a problem with them, neither has a few others I know who use them.

                            Hey Chad,

                            Check out the SimpliSafe product:

This is what I will go to next when we change. Watch the videos on Youtube. This is actually a pretty cool idea.

Thank you guys for all the feedback. Can you have them install window breaks and contacts on doors and windows and turn off the motion detector at night? To where the alarm will just sound if someone breaks the glass or opens the door but will not sound if Jr. mints (Conner) gets up in the middle of the night to pee? I am going to try and roll our house as well as our condo in Conroe in to one billing cycle. Not sure if that is possible, but I am more concerned with the alarm itself. I just don't wont to pay an arm and leg for the install. I know I should just get it done and quit b******* so my family and things will be safe, but I am trying to be cheap at the same time. Is that possible?

Bryce I will also check out the Simply safe video.
