    LDPs - poor little F-150

What a great start to the day this morning !! If you were caught in a traffic backup this morning between 7:00 and 7:30 on Eldridge between Clay and Tanner I apologize. It wasn’t my fault but I was involved. A small SUV made a sudden stop and right turn into a little strip center without signaling and I had to hit the brakes hard. The SUV stopped without completing its turn and there was no way for me to change lanes as another pickup was beside me. I stopped safely without crowding the SUV but Mr Ford must have been caught off guard as he relied on my receiver hitch to help him come to a complete but rather sudden stop. It was a pretty good pop but not enough to push me into the SUV luckily.

As you can see in the pics below Mr Ford clearly got the bad end of the chance encounter. The 2” ball on that receive hitch punched right through his transmission cooler and radiator and I think it got his A\C coil as well. It was quite a slippery mess between the trucks. The officer asked me to move the truck into the parking lot but nut under the trailer ball was hooked behind his bumper and with the slippery stuff all over the road I was just spinning. He stopped me before I could put in the 4 wheel drive, I was looking forward to ripping that bumper right off that truck. The officer knew what I was about to do and he chuckled and said, nope we don’t need to make it worse!.

All in all this is nothing more than an inconvenience I guess. No one was injured, Mr Ford received the citation and he has valid insurance coverage so it shouldn’t be a big deal. Just not something I wanted to deal with. My daughters car is parked in the driveway waiting on the insurance to approve the $4500 in repairs for a collision where she was rear ended 4 weeks ago to the day in College Station. That was a 5 car chain reaction where she was the car in the middle. The guy that caused that one is 18yrs old and was arrested for DWI at the scene. He tested at twice the legal limit.

    Anyway… A few LDPs

OUCH! Sorry about that. Man, those hitches can cause some major damage.

Agreed... Glad I own the Chevy and not the Ford in this case.

That's why I keep a receiver hitch on the back of my truck at all times. Bye bye to anyone's radiator at the least.

If you got caught up in the back up I'm sorry. I really wasn't planning on playing bumper cars this morning.

I think I will keep one in there from now on. I normally keep it inside the truck so I don't bang my shin walking around the truck. A couple of weeks ago I put it in when renting the u-haul to drag my daughter wrecked highlander home. Lucky for me I never got around to removing it.

Same thing happened to me when a guy rear ended me in a F150. I have a Dodge 3/4 ton. The half ton bumpers just dont line up well with the bigger vehicles.
