    This... or just lay it in the ice chest and cover with ice and leave the drain plug slightly open Ice it down real good to start with, no gaps or void space without ice. Put it on a slight incline and make sure the drain stays clear (not clogged with meat). Add ice as needed and make sure you give the cooler a shake so that the ice falls to the bottom when you top it off.

      The purpose(s) being discussed are for 'bleeding' out the meat. so keeping them in freezer bags would defeat the purpose of this exercise.
      I start of with the meat near the bottom..and cover with ice... ice meltsover and under the meat...water runs out the drain with the blood.

        I usually go about 7-10 days as well. Sometimes up to two weeks if I kill one towards the beginning of a trip. As long as the drain plug is open and you keep putting ice on them as needed the meat will be fine.

            I like to hang mine in a cooler for a day or too if one is available. Or keep on ice for least a week. Proper draining and plenty of ice.
