Can anyone educate me on these guns? I think I want one. Background, what to look for/watch out for, ammo price and availability, average price for the gun, etc. Can they be deer/pig guns? Thanks.

I bought my 3 boys each one and 1300 rounds of ammo.
I just ordered them outta shotgun news for 99 bucks apiece.

They shoot them like we used to shoot 22s.
The ammo is as cheap as 22, dang near.

They have killed a few pigs and other critters, and they say it's bad arse, but they are 10 13 and 17

I have one and they are fun to shoot with a looooooong trigger pull if you leave it original. Lots of aftermarket gear out there for them if you are wanting to play a little with it. Mine doesn't like the newer ammo much but it does shoot the ammo in the big green tins well, but make sure you clean it well after shooting the older stuff

I just got one and am new to them as well. I guess I way overpaid for mine because $99 for one is a great deal and dirt cheap if you can still find one at that price. The Cabela's in Allen had a whole rack of them for $199 about a month ago, but they weren't in as good a shape as the one I got from a small gun shop called The Gun Lab off of Harry Hines in Dallas.

Anyway, I'm still trying to learn about them. I found the following sites to be a wealth of information:

            7.62x54r.net
            russian-mosin-nagant-forum.com

Also, do a search for youtube videos from Iragveteran8888. He also does a torture test on one that shows just how well-built these things are.
