    Cattle Ear Tags ?

Read in the newspaper that putting Cattle Ear Tags out around insect and rodent areas will keep them at bay.
Has anyone ever used them as an insect and pest repellent ?
My Bird dogs get hit pretty hard with the biting flies every summer. Might hang them in their dog Kennel.

I have hung them above my horse stalls, and they work well. I have actually tied them on my dog's collar, but they don't last long, they always get hung on a fence and pulled off, or the other dog will pull it off when they are playing.
Should work well around the kennel.
Heading out to buy some now for my cows.

We have used them as dog collars. Never tried hanging them in deer stands. Like the idea, sinve we have a never ending supply of them.

Use them on dog collars and also work well around ac units and well pressure switches to keep the fire ants out of them.

Cool. Maybe I could cut the dang cow's head off and hang it around my blind. Each one of them has two tags.

They made my ears hurt and rarely matched my outfits.

I always wear 'em during the warm months of hunting season. I have found that making a loop from some yarn, tying it through the rivet hole and hanging it over the ear is less painful than hanging it from the actual hole in my ear lobes. I'd suggest buying white tags, but everyone knows that you can't wear white after Labor Day. Try a nice light blue.

Any farm/ranch/feed store should have them, but if there aren't any around you I just google searched "cow ear tags" and got half a million results...not all tags have the repellant...you gotta make sure you buy the right ones.

Tractor Supply should have them. Looks like there is a bunch of them around DFW.

The repellant on them is usually permethrin. You want the insecticide tags not the numbered tags. Mark if your in Fort Worth, Marshall Grain on East Lancaster would be a good spot to get the tags.

Personally, I use the no pest strips in blinds. They only cost a little more and don't smell quite as strong as the ear tags and last just as long or longer than the tags...they control wasps, spiders, mosquitos, etc.

I think the active ingredient on the cattle tags I've used on cattle was cypermethrin. They are great for places like pump houses, feeder timer boxes, etc. where you aren't sitting.

How long do the ear tags last in a covered enclosed area............approximately?
