First time bear, with pic.

Did a DIY bear hunt in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas last week and it was awesome! I studied the maps, made phone calls and did some research into the area, then headed out. He wasn't the biggest bear in the woods but he was a hard earned trophy for me. It was a really hard hunt but worth every step up and down the mountains.

We were up there for seven days, hunting and scouting. There was bear sign everywhere but the forest is so thick you cant see anything unless its right in front of you. Lots of deer and bear where we were at, just hard to get on them. Still hunting on trails and stalking seemed to work pretty good but you had to cover a lot of miles up and down the mountains.

Did you shoot him from the ground or a tree? How far was the shot? Very impressive kill.

Kdog, I was walking real slow and quite. That seemed to work better for me than anything. I was able to take a doe as well.
