    Mule Deer attractant/feed

Hoping to increase my odds on mule deer on our Hockley County farm. It's a 1/2 sect of CRP, right now they pretty much travel through or bed down. Amazing how a deer can literally disappear in knee high grass!

So what works. Tried alfalfa bales last year & they hit them a little bit.

C'mon you can see the sunrise, then watch them run across my place to the winter wheat. Always good for calling a yote in though!

I might be able to find an orchard or two for out here for a literal truck load of apples!

When I hunted in the panhandle they were at the feeders like crazy. They literally would not miss a day. We had a big wheat field too and they still annihilated the feeders.

I've got a wildlife patch in the CRP since the gov. allows it. You may want to put a little patch on the CRP if the county extension agent allows. My best views of monster mulies occurred with cold fronts in the morning.

Alfalfa works better than any other feed but by far the best thing you can do is put in a water station of some kind.

I was thinking about this, have a lined pond that once was fed by a sub pump. Was thinking about delivering water.

I have a feeder I'm not using right now if you want to set it out.

I set a feeder on our patch of crp that borders the yellow house ranch (hockey county as well)... Nothing just a BIG pile of corn... They never touched it, and never got a thing on cam.

I'm very interested in this thread... I haven't a clue, but the tracks are there on our property too... Just never any deer there when I'm there.

Water would be nice, but if we had a water well on the place it wouldn't have been dry land put into CRP so water is out.

I had a alfalfa feeder on a place for a while and had just a few deer coming to it on a regular basis. It would take them about a month to go through a bale of hay. I set up a water station and within a couple of weeks there where so many more deer that they were going through a bale per week. That place is in Lamb County.

We hunted Donley county. Those suckers went crazy for corn. Caught them hog traps and everything.

You can just rig up an old tank or chemical tote and have it set up to gravity flow to a small trough and put a float on it. Deer don't drink near as much as cattle and a 250 tote will last a long time. The "trough" that I use is a blue plastic barrel cut in half vertically. I just dug a hole and set the half barrel down in it so that the lip of the trough is just above ground level.
