    Unfortunate but Somewhat Humorous Incident...

So I pull up to a red light and immediately notice a panhandler holding a typical "homeless, need $" sign to my left. I also notice him put his left arm inside his shirt to make it appear as if he only has one arm. There's an open lane next to me and I see a Fort Worth PD cruiser pulling up in that open lane that would put him right by the panhandler. Popo pulls up and rolls down his window. Words are exchanged. Panhandler gives popo his sign and popo drives off with it, leaving "Lefty" with a look of total disbelief.

Well, maybe you had to be there. . And no I'm not taking lightly the plight of the homeless but panhandling is illegal and I've often wondered how the city handled these things. Now I know.

    Poor Lefty!

A panhandler once told me for .50 cents he'd give me an expression of gratitude and for a dollar he'd give my a thank you note!

I asked him what I'd get for $5...........a ride around the block in his Ferrari, he told me.

I had just gotten food the other day and put a wad of cash that I had received in change on my dashboard. Well the next stop I made was at a light a panhandler was at and I guess he saw me grab that wad full of cash and thought I was going to give it to him because he sprinted to my window. I was just putting it back in my wallet.

I have given money to too many of those people and watched them walk into a store and buy cigarettes or jump in a car with their crackhead boyfriend/girlfriend that I no longer give money to any of them.

Hate to not help someone in real need, but just can't trust who is and who isn't. There are a couple of known homeless people near our neighborhood, never seen either ask for a handout. They occupy their bus stop bench and never bother anyone. The one lady goes to the homeless shelter at night then back to her bench each day. News station did a story several years ago about panhandlers and was quite reveling, those guys were making more $/hr than I was.

Yeah, some of those guys with a good spot are actually raking it in and you KNOW they're not claiming it!

On the other hand, "giving" is the reward itself. I gave up worrying about what they spend it on. That's not (IMO) the purpose of giving- it's the motivation behind it. I think God smiles on us when we 'give' to others, whether the recipient buys dinner or his next 'fix' with our gift.

I was stopped next one (who had a dog with him) that had a sign which read "I will work for tips". There were some college aged boys in front of me, and one rolled the window down, got his attention and said "Here's a tip for you......Eat the dog". It was not very nice, but I laughed for while about that one.

                  That's cold. But kinda funny...

The wife once told a couple with a kid that she would take them across the street to a grocery store and buy them more stuff than they could handle. After the 3rd time of them turning her down she left...

Brought one a burger and application from a jack in the box that he was standing real close to. He kindly denied the burger and asked if he could throw the app in the bed of my truck after wadding it up, said "I make twice what their managers make out here"

I use to stop and tell the ones holding the "will work for food signs" i could take them to one of my jobs sites and let them pick up trash for the day and i would pay them $100. Not one time out of 50+ tries did i ever get one to take me up on the offer.

Saw one in Austin one time, was missing one of her legs. Sign said "On my last leg." I thought it was funny so I gave her a capri sun and she was very grateful.

Every time my sister sees one she gives them all the change in her car. Wouldn't be surprised if it's usually $15-$20.

I know of one who used to fake an injury, and an officer who would pick him off and dump him on the other side of town
