    How many points for Chap?

Those of you that have drawn or know someone who has draw a hunt at Chaparral, how many points did it take?

I have 4 archery deer points and 3 rifle deer either sex.

    How about James Daughtrey?

    Kerr?

Took me 10 points to get a hunt at the Daughtrey and 11 points for a doe hunt at Garner.

Stx archer, You can get the public Hunts booklet from the Texas Parks & Wildlife.
The Chapparel WMA was Burned up a few months back. I'm not sure if they will allow hunts this year.

I've always heard it takes 12 points to be drawn. With that said,I've got 16 years invested in the Chapparal with no luck so far.

Basically it's a lottery where the more points you have the more times your name is in the "hat". There is no magic number, just luck.

In places like Kansas when you have a point you move ahead of the line, someone with points is ahead of someone without, the more points the more you are in front of the line. You are guaranteed you will get drawn at some point. In Texas there is no guarantee, as I said earlier your name just gets put in the hat more times, if that makes sense.

            Good luck.

First time drawn was 21 years ago on a rifle hunt. Put in every year since and have'nt been drawn again. Put in for bow hunt same amount of time and I've been drawn 8 times. Hunted there the last 2 years.

this is true I heard something like 95% of it burned, there won't be any draw hunts for deer for awhile.

If the rain keeps up that place ought to green up.

I guess Daughtry would be about the same.

Anyone know anyone who was drawn for archery mule deer las year?

My first year that I ever applied for a TPWD public hunt I put in for the Chap and was drawn. It was for the management hunt and I had another schedule at that time, so I passed on the hunt.

I had about six points and got drawn for the Chap. Anyone been there before and know anything about it. I know that it burned and I know from a friend that the area got above normal rain fall so there should be some brutes on the place. Any tips would be appreciated.

They had a drawing for the rifle hunt on the Chap this year, I was not drawn and should have upwards of 10 pts.

Tip? Find a staff member (biologist?) that seems interested and talk to them. Listen to their advice.

I drove past the Chap a few weeks ago - it actually looks great - amazing regrowth after the burn

Hunts will take place this year, despite the burn. Should be good hunting.

I got drawn for the archery hunt on the Chap the first time I entered.
