Kind of my thoughts as well. The OP wanted opinions on if this buck had an injury or genetics. I think it is a legitimate question regardless of what kind of management plan he has in place. The places I manage, I refuse to let a buck walk that has major issue with horn development genetically, regardless if my age structure is not ideal.

To answer your question OP, I do believe this buck injured his beam during development, and would not be a candidate for culling based solely off genetics. And lastly, it's ok to ask questions here to folks who "know nothing about your deer herd."

He's a legal buck, take him if you like him.

Injured or not, I'd take him. Just looks like a management 8 point if the other side would be matching.

If it's the first time seeing him, I would wait at least a year. He might turn into a big freak later on down the road, or he could heal up and have a decent rack. Just my 2 cents

I would let him walk. I had a deer like that on my place last year and told myself I was goin to shoot him if I saw him. Never got a shot at him and now he is a 5 year old 125-130 ten point.
