New scoring method - opinions wanted

Don't get me wrong. I am all for traditional scoring methods. I would never abandon B&C or P&Y; however, I think some deer don't get the true credit they deserve. I was thinking about total antler displacement in cubic inches. I'm sure I am not the first person to think of this and maybe it has already been tried but think about it. Take each antler from the base on and drop them in a bucket of water to measure the total cubic inch of antler. This way ever bit of antler get acknowledged. I have a buck with wide g2s but that is not counted in traditional scoring. I think if others are on board with this idea then we can attempt it and see if it gains traction. If it is legit and TBH members start using it along side of traditional scoring then it may have a shot to take off and become a secondary score book. I plan to try it later when I get home to make sure it's not just a glorified thought and will actually work. Again before anyone gets offended I have no intentions of disowning traditional methods I would just like a secondary method of scoring our trophies. Let the discussion begin..

Your over 20 years too late on that method. It was tried by the same guy that creatd the TGR scoring system which is in use today by ths Exotic Wildlife Association. It scores exotics and native game.

Scoring is for games. Hunting is a life and death situation. At what point did we diminish the fact that we kill animals to eat them ? Big racks have come to equate big money

I don't believe the OP was asking whether we should be scoring our animals or not.

This idea you are describing is the Burkett scoring system. I like it but don't think it will ever catch on.

I looked this up and it is very confusing. It does not seem to be the same as what I am talking about but the end result may be the same. I can see why this didnt catch on you have to take 200 measurements.

I thought this was a good illustration to describe what I am talking about. Even though the key is an odd shape, volume is volume. With the proper equipment and method there should only be two measurements. One volume measurement per side and then add them up.

Yes, I understand what you mean. Burkett had a scoring system based on water displacement. I cant find anything about it on the internet, so it must not be true. I'll keep digging and see what I can come up with.

Weight would be accurate but the antlers would have to be seperated from the skull.

I would never use one like that. The traditional methods, whether people like them or not, show just how rare the animals really are. A true B&C deer is not easy to find.

I like it and have thought about it over the years. Its really the only true method of measuring the total amount of antler in a buck.

You would need one big bucket though!
