Taking a walk down memory lane today and I was thinking about the old hunting videos that got me involved in the sport back in the mid 80's. Does anyone else remember the video Bowhunting October Whitetails, with Rick Blasé and Barry Wensel? These were hunting videos at their finest, no product placements or advertising of any kind, just three pioneers of our sport showing how it's done to a dated sound recording. Mind you cameras of the mid 80's were insanely large and only had 1 hr batteries. As a kid, my dad would rent hunting videos such as this from AC's archery shop in Port Arthur tx (another trip down memory lane). No outdoor networks then. Anyway, if you were lucky enough to see these as I did way back when you'll appreciate my nestalgia, if not then I would certainly recommend finding them!

Met them both in K'zoo in 2003. Great guys. But I consider them latecomers in traditional bowhunting, so to speak.By that, I mean I was watching Fred Bear and Ben Pearson videos before that, and I can remember wonderful videos that yes, we would rent from the archery shop, featuring Bear, Pearson and Hill, among others. But, as you say, Bowhunting October Whitetails is an absolute classic example of what hunting videos once were, and still should be. Not infomercials like we have today, but rather, a chronicle of our passion, and sharing the great outdoors, along with our respect for the animals we pursue. Back then, it was about the whole experience. Not just the kill. How I long for those days.
