    Does didn't like my decoy

Put out a Flambeau buck decoy. Took off one antler as recommended so he doesn't look to intimidating. Left him outside for 2 weeks before hunting so he would smell more naturey. Sprayed him down with scent killer then some Deer Dander to get him smelling like a deer.

Had 2 does at different times get about 20 yards away then start snorting and stomping. They hated it. they knew something was up. I doubt it was the scent...

What do you guys think? Bad time a year for a decoy? this is the first time I've ever used one...

I have only used a decoy one time, and that was my experience with them.

Set up a feeding doe decoy in some goat weed. A doe imediately started stomping and snorting from about 50 yds off. She blew one last time and hauled butt.

A 4 point came in and circled the decoy from about 15 yds out blew and turned and ran.

I climbed out of the stand and laid the decoy in a small drainage out of sight. A small eight was crossing the drainage caught the decoy in his side vision walked over there looked at the doe from about 5 yds and screamed "Holy C***. Run Run Run for your lives!" then turned and ran.

Never took one out in the woods again.

I bought one years ago after seeing those videos of big bucks trying to hump a doe decoy, and trying to fight a buck decoy. I stubbornly kept using it for almost an entire season - "it's got to work, right?" Does would not come anywhere near it and the bucks either ignored it or ran away from it. I suppose a doe decoy it MIGHT attract a buck in the height of the rut, but after seeing the effect it had on my deer I sold it.

That's the same story that I've heard. I'm guessing that I won't be taking one out to the lease anytime soon. At least you found out early.

That's what I'm thinking. Kinda an experiment weekend while action is still slow.

I used my archery 3D target a couple times just to see what happened. They walked around it and didnt pay it any attention. Just went about their business and ate the corn under the feeder as a 140 inch foam block target stared at them. haha

I love decoys and can't wait to use them, however I think you might be too early.

I've got a doe decoy and only use it during the rut. Have had the best luck after removing legs and place her in 12-14" tall grass, looks like shes bedded. Have shot 2 bucks with her help in 5 years. Every buck who has checked her out has circled around her and come in down wind at 15-20 yards. Have to figure in the wind to make it work
