    Moral Dilemma...

This morning, I had a shot at two different does. Both had yearlings with them. Am I wrong for letting em walk?

My thought was, if I kill the doe, the yearling will have that much harder of a time making it.

    Thoughts?

I have adopted the guideline of if the yearling has spot I won't shoot mom. I like to make sure the population of deer continues on from year to year. Good job on letting them go

If they are a mature doe let it fly, yearling will be fine.

I personally don't kill does with yearlings but I don't see a problem with anybody else doing it.

Deer, especially females, are communicators and social animals in my opinion. An orphan fawn will find an adoptive doe and a doe will always raise an orphan fawn.

As long as the yearling doesn't have spots, let'em fly.

Last year after I filled my buck tags with my bow I took both a doe and what appeared to be last year's fawn with a smoke pole. We needed to fill 9 doe tags per the state biologist.

                    I don't have a problem shooting a doe with a fawn.
It's the audience that watches the field dressing that gets to me.
Just gotta take the doe elsewhere to clean or the younguns will stick around to watch mom get split.

Most all does will have a fawn.... That's what they do.

I have a fix to your dilemma.

Shoot the fawn. Then shoot the doe she won't have a fawn at that time.

I feel bad when I kill one with a fawn and they hang around and watch after the kill. I kill only open does but I don't have many doe on my place. If I was run over with them it probably wouldn't matter fawn or no fawn.

I don't shoot does with spotted fawns or with nubbins. We've still got so many on camera that I haven't even gone hunting yet. I don't have a problem with those that do, it's just not my way. I'm always trying to look out for the future first since I don't have any problem filling tags, if I want to.

They won't stick around if you pop her with a boom stick.
