    Got an interesting call today

Got an interesting call today from one of our lease managers. I seems Campbell Lumber has picked the week before opening day to start logging the pine and oak grove that i moved to this year. I moved there after I was told it wouldn't be logged for quite some time. Well, "quite some time" aparently is 6 months in East Texas time.

Hope that they at least took the tree stands down and didn't wreck them, if those trees were cut down. It'd be even nicer to see a few still standing and deer back at the feeders come Tuesday afternoon/evening.

I'm being optimistic. I'm going to tag the best buck on the lease this season, because I'll endevor to persevere. Meanwhile, he's gonna be thinking, "who would expect me to be here with all the activity last week?"

Last year the same thing happen to me, left for work offshore come back two weeks later and my stands and feeders where in the middle of a clear cut......

Moved my feeders and stands to the woodline and seen more deer last year than any other year I've hunted the lease......

deer love the new fresh browse..

Good luck - they do love fresh cut new growth and my experience is they will move in right away so you may be good

Drove to a spot a years ago only to see skidders and log trucks parked in my little honey hole. The place belonged to a family member who later sold the place and didn't tell me. Again, I drove up to hunt only to find the locks changed and new posted signs. This family member is a great guy and is friendly to a fault. One year, I accepted his invitation to another place for a squirrel hunt. There were more people there than squirrels, ha! Any way, back to the original issue at hand, the deer most likely wont leave because they cut it. As others have said, they will love the new browse. I just left a timber company lease in East Texas after about 8 years and we killed plenty of deer in and around the clearcuts. Same deal, you never knew when they were going to cut a new section. Good luck, I love your optimism!
