I would go no matter what the deer were like. there are muleys in that area and if it is not hunted much, there will be some monsters. There was a person that served on the LSBA council for many years that lived in Pecos and he always killed some big muleys.

16,000 acres should hold a couple of good mulies
You should see some nice ones there Ryan. A big change of scenery for us coastal plains boys

Never hunted around Pecos, but I know there are some big ones all over that area west to Van Horn and down to Ft. Davis....

Gary Oden is the guy you are referring to. He held the LSBA state record for many years and still has several in the top 10. All taken around Pecos. Go, even if you don't get anything it will be fun. Hard hunting but there are definitely some monsters out there.

Yep, Gary is the guy. Could not remember his name though. Do you know if he still lives in that area? Have not seen or heard of him in years.

My sister and brother in law go every year to hunt muledeer near pesos. Best one he has killed was a 27" wide 5x5 that went 186". My sister killed a really old 3x4 last year that was 31" wide. One of them always bring back a good buck each year. I know pics or it didn't happen, but trust me there are some bruisers out that way.

We will be rifle hunting. I have my usual deer rifle .308 that I have many kills behind and am super confident with out to 300. Will this suffice or do I need to break out my safe queen .300 win mag?
