It's been over 30 years since the last time my dad has been teal hunting, well a couple of days ago he called to let me know that he bought his hunting license AND his duck stamp. I needed no further clues to figure out he wanted to go duck hunting so after the good report I got yesterday from some friends I call my dad last night and asked him if he had to work this morning. He said he wouldn't know for sure until about 5:30am if he was going to have to go in. I told him that was fine, call me as soon as you found out for sure I will be going one way or another. Well at 5:05 this morning my phone rang it was dad saying " I'm on my way to your house " I'll be waiting when you get here I said. Well we got to the blind about 45 minutes before legal shooting light so we had a little sit before we could start hunting. The skeeters were BAD so dad got his first experience with a thermocel. He is a believer now! Ten minutes before legal shooting time the birds started funneling in and out and my dad was like a kid in a candy store. Look at those, there's more right here, here comes some more, those just flew away. Dad it's not time yet! Well I made him wait a couple of extra minutes just like he always did to me! Finally a good set of birds came in and I told him kill these! We cut loose on them and we had three dead birds on the water. We limited out within the next 20 minutes and dad had a blast. We got home and my boy was about to leave for school but he had to get a picture we us and the ducks. I had a wonderful time with my dad and look forward to the day that he and I can take my boy on his first hunt. Sorry for the long read but it's times like this that make or fondest memories!
