Never hunted near a train, but have hunted plenty of places with oilfield traffic and within 100yds of an active drill rig. They get used to the noise and traffic pretty quickly.

Hagerman is a great example. A VERY active track runs thru thru big Mineral and Harris Creek. The trains go thru multiple times per day. I hunted very close to the tracks in Harris the first year it was open. I saw two does standing by the tracks literally waiting for the train to pass by so they could cross.

Hagerman can be one of the noisiest places to hunt. As well as the trains I have heard pump jacks running and backfiring, people shooting guns on their property, people talking outside their houses, dogs barking (especially in the Meyers), cars dirving by....I even had a Grayson county road crew running a jack hammer close to one of my sets. Generally always see deer despite the Grayson county urban sprawl.

We have a highway by ours. Plan to take a pee when the 18 wheelers come by or open a beer. Train seems better for this.

I have hunted around trains all my life and they don't hurt anything. On my last lease I used the train coming by as an opportunity to stand/draw many times. The deer would be so close and everything was so quiet I couldn't wait till a train came by so I could get stood up and drawn.

I have an active track within 20 yards of one of my tree stand locations. I've literally taken a shot at a doe that had her head down feeding while the train was whizzing by behind me.

A very active track bisects my lease. All of the above are correct, no impact. The only deer I have seen react was a post mature 8 point, he would freeze as the train went by, then resume his activity after it passed.

You use a cover scent? Now you've got a cover sound too.

I have tracks in my backyard, the deer will stand and watch it go by. A lot of times a train will park for a day or two and the deer either crawl under or go around. To come in to feed.
