Exactly how will a truck smoke another in the short distance and not have more power?

ETA: To answer the OP's question, I love my 2012. 3.55 gears, 4x4 with the long bed supercrew. Get an honest 18 MPG on the highway. Get 10-11 pulling my camper or boat (Both about 5K pounds) and can pull either one stupid fast.

I didn't understand that statement either!

      From Fords website...
"The available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 generates an impressive 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque."
"EcoBoost generates 90 percent of its amazing 420 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm."
They also have the Ecoboost hp listed at 365 @ 5000

I am coming up on having mine a year and with almost 40,000 miles on it. It has been in the shop four times this year. Ford has taken care of it, but I have been out of my truck about 3 weeks this year. I had major issues with my Chevy I bought new last time. I have the worst luck when it comes to picking new trucks.

There are semi widespread problems with the intercooler on the ecoboost trucks. It was a design flaw that allowed water from the road to corrupt the system somehow. When the intercooler went, the catalytic converter was next. This was almost always a warranty issue as the problems developed around 20,000 miles or less.

They have fixed the issue with the 2013 trucks (Mine is a 2012).

Havent heard of any other issues.

I have a '13 ecoboost 4x4 with 3.55 rear end. I test drove the eco and 5.0 before pulling the trigger. To me, the 5.0 felt very much like my 4.6 which I thought was a dog. I now have 7k miles on it and average around 15 mpg. Towing my ranger or boat it stays around 10 mpg. So far I've been very impressed with this truck.

The Ecoboost definitely will tow better than the 5.0, but I don't think the 5.0 is the new 4.6. My understanding is that the 3.7l v6 replaced the 4.6 and the 5.0 replaced the 5.4. I could be wrong on that, but that was my understanding... I actually think I read somewhere that the 5.0 had better hp and torque than the 5.4 used to... Can't find where I read that, so maybe someone can confirm this...

Funny you say that because my '05 has the 3.55 and next time I'm getting the 3.73. Engine doesn't have a problem towing, I just found that towing my boat to/from the bay and to/from Lake Conroe the speed I most commonly travel is right at the point where the trans changes from 3rd to OD. Dang thing was constantly in and out of overdrive so I just turned OD off even though I didn't need to. I think 3.73 would keep the rpm a little higher and would also help keep it in OD at highway speed when towing.

NOPE, that's 1/4 mile times! The F-150's run high 14's to very low 15's stock.

The turbo will take up the slack many times and not cause the shift to happen. With tow/haul mode I can pull my 22' center console and I don't notice any abnormal shifts or fighting to get or stick in a gear. It will suck more gas down than without the boat though. I also pull a 20' race car trailer back and forth to Kerrville and it the eco handles the hills out west with ease. I have a Chevy Duramax and mostly use it for heavy lifting or driving on the ranch where I don't want the F150 scratched up.

My family has been blessed recently and we were able to purchase a 2013 King Ranch with ecoboost. It has only been 3 weeks, but no complaints so far. It was a dealer demo with 5,000 miles on it. Whoever drove those 5,000 miles averaged 18.4. I drive from Frisco to Southlake daily and average 17.4.

Apples and oranges between the '05 with the 5.4 and 4 speed tranny to the current ones. Pulling my camper at 70 mph, mine will stay in 5th gear (6th locked out) with very little downshifting.

You can't go wrong with a Ford. I am on my 5th F150, I got a 2010 Platinum 4x4 because it was the last year they put a 6.2 in them and I wanted the big engine. Only thing they put them in now is the Raptor and the limited.
