    Any Water Well Experts around?

I have this old well pump on the property I just bought and I am wondering if any of you guys know what I need to do to get the well pumping again. I have no idea at this point how deep the well is or if it is still wet. Looking for someone that might know how to take this old pump off and try to figure out more info about the well.

    Thanks,

    Alan

Looks like an old windmill pump that someone pump and electric motor on top of. Could work like that however you might over pump your well. Do you currently have power run to it?

No, there is no power run to it right now but I could do that easily.

I'd bet it's locked up...slip the belt off and see if both ends turn..

Looks like a shallow well pump!

If the water table is not high enough then it may not pump anything.

I am not a well and pump expert!

Call a well service company, they will know how deep the water table is and the best way to get it going, you can run a shallow well off of a solar system, good luck.

you might be able to find it on here....

click the search well reports by map.......you can zoom into the map and find the Grind numbers your property falls in and sometimes the well tracking number..... you just have to play around a little on the site but you should be able to find the well report, which shows how deep and at what depths your water is...

Like said above see if it is locked up. They invented these to take the place of a windmill, same cocept. On a windill the wind powerrs the gears to push a sucker rod up and down to pump water. Inside that housing Is gears and a mechanism that goes up and down powering the sucker rod to pump water. With the pressure tank you should be able to put a pressure switch on it just like any other water well. We had one of those old Housing and gears years ago that was locked up. It was very easy to free up with some PB Blaster and WD40. You might be able to pull the well and find out if there is water. I dont see why it wouldnt work, hope this helps

but if electricity can get to it I would remove that pump, pull the (more than likely) galvanized pipe and pump, remove the pressure tank. Then I would see if there is water, if so, then I would put poly pipe in with a submersible pump with new pressure tank.

I'm betting it's not that deep....you could probably pull it by hand with a couple buddies..if it's iron pipe, which I bet it is, pull easy, if you loose the works downhole you got problems..

If you can pull it, drop a weight on a string and check TD and water level..

                        We can run from there.

Thanks guys. Tell me a little more about what to take apart before I try to lift it out. where in the picture is the actual well hole? In one of those concrete foundations?

This looks like its gonna be a lot of fun. I hope this is not your only water source.

I see some of the craziest water well setups everyday but this is old.

I only fix the bad water, the well drillers call me after they are done so I can't help with this much.
