I had the same bull at 30 yards on the other side of the hill 10 minutes before terry shot. He needed to take 2 steps & turned around. Oh so close yet so far.

Well the fat lady has sung. We were not successful at getting elk but we did get the cleanse the soul. Brett and I are really looking forward to getting back and seeing our families. We will be headed home bright and early. Thanks for following along.

Yes she is singing but sounds terrible ! We had a blast & had a lot of close encounters of the elk kind. I learned a ton that I will put to use next year. I always get a tear in my eye leaving this place. The beauty of this part of Colorado is indescribable. Until next time ....

Dang brother, I feel your pain. Colorado is one of my favorite places on earth, it's always tough leaving. God spent a little extra time on Colorado, that's for sure. Been a pleasure following along, thanks for the vacation. Be safe and thanks for the pics.

Well I'm about to puke my breakfast up. About 30 minutes ago I had a big 330 to 340 inch 6 x 6 step out in front of me. As he was stepping out into the clearing I drew my bow. So I did not have time to range him. When I drew he stopped behind a tree so I waited. As he started to walk again I stepped back one step to get clear of a tree As he was walking away from me. He caught my movement and turned perfectly quartered away and looked back at me. I guessed him around 56 yards so I settled my 50 yard pin a little high on him. I thought I made a good hit and went after him to try to get a second shot on him. Brett caught up to me and after retracing my steps we found out the shot was only a 46 yard shot. Even both of us looking at it then we both agreed it looked 60. So I found my arrow perfectly clean. For the last three years I have been snake bit when it comes to elk hunting. We have one evening left if I can quit Tripping over my lip.

Sorry to hear about it, but better to miss than wound one and then follow a long blood trail only to lose it after about 2 miles.......that sucked on Sunday!

We don't think its the same one but from that far away it might have been. Sounds like you had a close call like me. Oh well , just makes me want to hunt them more
