Need advice ASAP on setting duke traps

main question is setting traps out at around 3 o'clock this afternoon to early? because I really don't have any other options.

I set out 11 duke traps last weekend only ended up with one coon so I obviously didn't do things right. I used wet cat food.
can you experienced trappers tell me the proper way to set, baits, distances between traps, where and how to bait the trap (aside from putting bait in behind trigger paddle.

assume I know nothing about these things at all and include any and all details you are willing to share I would really appreciate it.

For coons, it's a lot easier to use the dog proof traps. Just put a marshmellow or part of a hotdog wiener on the trigger and set it, anchor the chain and push the stinger in the ground.

Using #11 traps, I usually use a dirthole set with the bait in the bottom. The trap is close to the hole and set slightly to the side.

The problem with using food baits this time of year is the fireants will quickly swarm the bait.

      Duke traps are dog proof..

      But marshmellows work great

Set 12 out last year with Duke traps using marshmallows. 80% success. I think you cant go wrong with marshmallows. Send photos of your success.

can someone take a picture of what they're calling the stinger.

yes I definitely saw ants as a major problem with the wet cat food last time I went back to check the traps.

and addition to the 1 marshmallow in the bait storage area behind the trigger paddle. do you put them around the trap as well. Do you put a marshmallow in front of the trigger paddle inside the trap as well?

I have no idea which models I have the lease owner is the one that bought the traps .

is someone has one handy that could post a few pictures of a demo of how they set it that would be fantastic. because all I did was to set the trap on the ground or bury it in a hole or press the stinger in the ground. pretty much just baited the trap, take it off to a tree or T post state and just left it laying on the ground

To clarified it was a last minute trip to the leaseso I didn't have a chance to research anything at all about setting traps up before I get there.

Just pierce marshmellow through the long silver pointy thing that sets the trap. Note: be sure not to set trap off when piercing marshmallow. If you do, send photos.

Lol. You know I never even looked inside the trap after I set them just opened the back door where I thought you baited the trap. Filled it with cat food and closed the door and left it be. I obviously got some misinformation from the owner of the traps

                      Can you post a pic?

                            Big honking marshmallows!!!

I set mine 30 yards apart. Not sure why, just seem like it would keep them from talking about not to eat the marshmallows to the other coons.

The pointy end is the stinger. Tie off the trap GOOD and push that into the ground.
