    Identify snake

Had this kid bring this snake by my house to show my boys. I have always heard red and yellow kill a fellow. I went and let his parents know what he might of had. But would like to know for sure what it is.

I agree after seeing pics. Either way I wouldn't mess with it because of the way I was taught to identify

Well heck in that case there are a butt ton out there that are coral snakes in hiding since they have red and yellow, there is more to it than just "red and yellow" the other half of that equation is stripes that go all the way around the snake, need to add that to your id skills.

It is definitely a Broad-banded water snake (Nerodia fasciata confluens). Non-venomous, but they stink like crap and usually have a bad attitude.
