    Police Officer question??

I just purchased a new vehicle and was called to come pick up plates. When I get there the salesman putting them on told me you would no longer need a front plate. I went home and my research turns up different than that. In fact the way I read, it states it is actually something you can be pulled over and fined where as there used to not be a fine for it. Just like to get clarification from an officer.

Yes, you have to have the front plate.

The law was not enforced because the original law did not specify a fine. That has been corrected. It is now a fine not to exceed $200 for not having it installed.

As of Sept Texas is only issuing 1 plate. The new laws state that you must have the plates on your vehicle that are issued to it. Basically, if issued 2 plates they must both be displayed. I believe it was house bill 625. I saw it posted on here earlier this month. I also confirmed it with a APD officer

Go back to that salesman and tell him that he's full of hooey and you just got a ticket for no front plate, then tell him he owes you 200.00 for the fine. Make sure to video his reaction.

This is exactly how I read it. I wasn't buying in to it without researching myself.

I was pulled over in July and issued a warning for only having one plate on the vehicle. They other one was on the dash.

He was just setting you up.

"Honest officer, another cop told me that it was okay. Really!"

I asked two police friends last weekend, and they had opposing answers. And they were both vague!

Look up the law on your own. Dont take the word of one police officer. Oh, and put that front plate back on your ride.

Heck, you could be arrested and your vehicle towed.

The law always said two plates on most vehicles. That has not changed. Two years ago they changed the wording of the law but forgot to include the fine.

That started all kinds of speculations of not needing two plates, they changed the location where they could be and who knows what else.

You still need two plates for a passenger vehicle or pickup. You do not need two plates if it is a motorcycle, trailer or tractor.
