Grew up with huge gators.........not very aggressive to humans but fish hanging off a pirogue or tied to a tree would be like a dinner bell.

Might as well read, "Fisherman Killed by Cartel".

History of heart problems and wore a pace maker. Wading alone. Very hot day. Poor gentleman could have died any number of ways and there is zero evidence that he was attacked by a gator. Could have had a heart attack. Could have drowned. Could have been run over by drunks in a boat. All are 100x more likely than him being attacked by a gator.

Prayers for his family regardless of the circumstances surrounding his death. I pray they get closure.

I've seen quite a few gators in there. Pretty hair raising when your waste deep in the water!

I knew this guy and used to work around him before he retired.

I heard from someone in the know that said they found his waders. There was a large alligator bite in the waders. It is not known at this time if he was alive at the time it happened.

                    True that!

                    ----------

About 10yrs ago I had a close encounter with a 10ft gator wade fishing out from the refuge on crooked. Had a top-dog on my line and started pounding his eyes. Bit my rod tip off so I started jabbing him in the eyes. Finally he backed off a little and went under the water, I put some distance between us by running away down the reef. When I first saw him moving in I got up on the reef in ankle deep water putting him in waste deep water at rods length.

Reported it to the refuge and they acted like I was bothering their alligator, go figure. Couple three years later refuge personnel shot several alligators that routinely displayed aggressive behavior because to the complaints.

Alligators venture out into the bays all the time. But during extended drought conditions they end up spending to much time in heavy salt water, that's because the ponds are dry. Their systems can't adjust to the salt. After about 30days this makes them easily agitated and very aggressive, if the bay is brackish not so much agitated/aggressive. Right now the bay is very salty.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion and I'm bound to have a bad post from time to time. Certainly didn't mean for it to sound insensitive. I just wondered about the title of the thread when neither link the OP provided said anything that would make anyone think that's what happened. It is probably the least likely thing to have happened, statistically speaking. It's tragic and how he died doesn't really matter. I'm sure his family is devastated regardless.

I read in one of the articles that his wife mentioned that he had a heart stent and wore a pace-maker.

If TP&W doesn't believe gators are a problem in Texas, they need to try teal hunting around Bayside.
